Ecosystem Engineering

The discipline of designing products, standards, infrastructure, teams, and organisations so that each increases the value of the others.

๐Ÿงญ Why a discipline, not a strategy

Most founders accumulate products. An ecosystem engineer designs the graph between them: which data they share, which specs keep them coherent, which infrastructure keeps them independent of any vendor โ€” including yourself. Each idea might be small alone. The strength is in integration.

โš™๏ธ The operating model

Every part of the ecosystem follows the same pipeline:

  1. Observation โ€” something in everyday life or engineering is needlessly fragmented.
  2. Opportunity โ€” the fragmentation hides a reusable primitive.
  3. Product โ€” ship the primitive as a focused app with its own door.
  4. Platform capability โ€” other apps start consuming it.
  5. Reusable specification โ€” the capability gets a vocabulary others can implement.
  6. Infrastructure โ€” it becomes something the whole ecosystem stands on.
  7. Ecosystem โ€” each new layer raises the value of every prior one.

Worked examples: booking (Bookius), queries (DTQL), storage independence (DALgo), specifications themselves (SpecScore).

๐Ÿ“ Principles

  • Long-term thinking โ€” a ten-year vision on a five-year execution line, riding the AI acceleration.
  • User value and ownership โ€” users adopt what they can leave; ownership creates trust.
  • Composability โ€” every feature should be someone else's building block.
  • Performance and clarity โ€” fast software and plain language are the same virtue in two media.
  • Openness where practical โ€” standards and infrastructure in the open; product edge where it counts.
  • Taste โ€” in UX, in naming, in what not to build.

๐Ÿšช Is this you too?

If you recognise this way of working โ€” as an investor, engineer, mentor, or fellow founder โ€” the doors are here.
